Unfortunately, sales have a major negative impact, both ethically and environmentally.
Here are the 3 main reasons why:
1. Workers' working conditions:
To meet the increased demand during sales, companies resort to highly questionable practices when it comes to working conditions. This can include unpaid overtime, excessive pressure on employees to increase productivity, not to mention the use of child labor or forced labor in some parts of the world.
At Quat'rues, we have from the outset - over 18 years ago - chosen to work according to ethical trade criteria (in particular, not asking our suppliers to work much harder for two short periods of the year). These fair trade criteria are in total opposition to the principle of sales as they exist today.
2. Over-consumption and environmental impact:
Sales encourage over-consumption by encouraging consumers to buy products they don't really need. This wastes resources, increases waste production and puts further pressure on the environment.
At Quat'rues, we've always been mindful of our environmental impact, inviting you to consume organic clothing in moderation.
3. Deceptive commercial practices:
Some companies artificially inflate the prices of their products before the sales and then offer discounts that appear greater than they actually are. This can mislead consumers into buying products at prices that do not reflect the true value of the item. It also undermines the viability of small businesses like ours by creating imbalances in the marketplace.
At Quat'rues, we prefer to offer you fair prices, calculated fairly, all year round. Fair for you, for us and for all our suppliers.
Sales raise ethical questions about respect for workers, transparency of business practices, environmental protection and fairness in the marketplace.
It is therefore important for companies to implement responsible and ethical practices when organizing sales, and for these to be dedicated solely to clearing stocks from previous collections.
Unfortunately, this is no longer the case, with 12 collections per year per brand in the conventional industry, and promotions all year round!
Our advice - Buy better, buy less, buy at the right price at Quat'rues! (to be read with a tune from an 80s advert playing in the background).
